AN ACT CONCERNING NOTARIES PUBLIC ENGAGED IN THE UNAUTHORIZED PRACTICE OF LAW.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That the general statutes be amended to (1) prohibit notaries public from offering legal advice on immigration matters or falsely conveying that they are attorneys licensed to practice law in the state, and (2) establish civil and criminal penalties for notaries public who engage in such prohibited conduct.
Statement of Purpose:
To provide the public with greater protections against notaries public who are engaged in the unauthorized practice of law.
