AN ACT ESTABLISHING "RED ZONES" ON CONNECTICUT'S HIGHWAYS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That the general statutes be amended to (1) establish "red zones" on any highway where two lanes of traffic merge into one lane of traffic, (2) require that any person operating a motor vehicle in a lane designated as a red zone promptly merge out of such red zone at the earliest time such merge is safe, (3) provide that each such red zone shall be designated by red painted lines on the roadway, and (4) provide that any driver that fails to promptly merge out of such red zone shall be deemed to have committed an infraction and fined not more than one hundred dollars.

Statement of Purpose: 

To improve safety on Connecticut's highways.
