AN ACT CONCERNING THE PURCHASE OF LONG GUNS AND LONG GUN AMMUNITION. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That chapter 529 of the general statutes be amended to (1) create an eligibility certificate for a rifle or shotgun that shall be issued by the Commissioner of Emergency Services and Public Protection upon a finding that an applicant meets the same requirements that apply to the issuance of eligibility certificates for pistols and revolvers, as specified in section 29-36f of the general statutes, and (2) prohibit any person from purchasing or receiving a rifle or shotgun or ammunition for a rifle or shotgun without a valid eligibility certificate for a rifle or shotgun. Statement of Purpose: To reduce the use of long guns in the perpetration of crime by imposing the same requirements that apply to the purchase or receipt of pistols and revolvers on the purchase and receipt of long guns and long gun ammunition.
