AN ACT CONCERNING INDEMNIFICATION BY THE STATE OF LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL WHO ARE CLEARED OF CRIMINAL WRONGDOING ALLEGED TO HAVE OCCURRED IN THE COURSE OF THEIR EMPLOYMENT.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That section 53-39a of the general statutes be amended to provide that when a law enforcement officer is cleared of criminal wrongdoing alleged to have occurred in the course of the officer's employment, the officer shall be indemnified by the governmental unit that charged or prosecuted him or her for all economic loss sustained by him or her as a result of the criminal prosecution.
Statement of Purpose:
To ensure that a municipality is not held liable for economic damages incurred by a law enforcement officer who is cleared of criminal wrongdoing alleged by the state to have occurred in the course of the officer's employment.
