AN ACT CONCERNING ORDERS OF SUPERVISED VISITATION IN A FAMILY RELATIONS MATTER.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That section 46b-56 of the general statutes be amended to provide that, in a family relations matter, a court may not order that a parent have supervised visitation with his or her child unless the court is presented with evidence that establishes that the parent has engaged in acts of abuse or neglect, including, but not limited to, acts of abuse or neglect established by the Department of Children and Families, with respect to such child.

Statement of Purpose:

To limit the court's authority to enter orders of supervised visitation in a family relations matter to those cases in which there is evidence that the parent has engaged in acts of abuse or neglect with respect to his or her child.
