AN ACT CONCERNING LIMITATIONS ON AN ATTORNEY'S ABILITY TO ARTICULATE IN LUMP SUMS OR AS A MATHEMATICAL FORMULA THE AMOUNT OF PAST AND FUTURE NONECONOMIC DAMAGES CLAIMED TO BE RECOVERABLE. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That section 52-216b of the general statutes be amended to provide that during closing arguments an attorney may not articulate in lump sums or as a mathematical formula the amount of past and future noneconomic damages claimed to be recoverable. Statement of Purpose: To prohibit attorneys from articulating in closing arguments the pecuniary amount of damages claimed to be recoverable by reference to a lump sum amount or a mathematical formula.
