AN ACT REQUIRING KILL SWITCHES FOR SMARTPHONES.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That the general statutes be amended to require all smartphones sold in this state on and after January 1, 2016, to include software or hardware, or a combination of both, that once initiated and successfully communicated, render inoperable the essential features of the smartphone to an unauthorized user.

Statement of Purpose: 

To protect consumers who lose or have their smartphones stolen.
