Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: Section 1. Subdivision (48) of section 14-1 of the general statutes is repealed and the following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective July 1, 2017): (48) "Manufacturer" means (A) a person, whether a resident or nonresident, engaged in the business of constructing or assembling new motor vehicles of a type required to be registered by the commissioner, for operation upon any highway, except [a utility trailer] any trailer with a gross vehicle weight rating of ten thousand pounds or less, which are offered for sale in this state, or (B) a person who distributes new motor vehicles to new car dealers licensed in this state; This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections: Section 1 July 1, 2017 14-1(48) This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections: Section 1 July 1, 2017 14-1(48) Statement of Purpose: To redefine "manufacturer" to exclude a person constructing or assembling any trailer with a gross vehicle weight rating of ten thousand pounds or less.
