Referred to Committee on GOVERNMENT ADMINISTRATION AND ELECTIONS

Introduced by:

REP. BETTS, 78th Dist.

AN ACT CONCERNING ACCESS TO PUBLIC RECORDS IN THE STATE ARCHIVES.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That title 11 of the general statutes be amended to lift any prohibition against viewing a public record or file, as defined in section 1-200 of the general statutes, that has been deposited in the state archives seventy-five years after the creation of such record or after the death of a natural person who is the subject of such record.

Statement of Purpose:

To improve efficiency within the state archives and executive branch agencies by eliminating the need for agency review of individual restricted files and to provide open access to restricted historic public records and files when a reasonable amount of time has passed after their creation or after a person's death.
