AN ACT ESTABLISHING A TAX ON SINGLE-USE PLASTIC AND PAPER BAGS.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That the general statutes be amended to establish a five-cent tax on single-use carryout paper and plastic shopping bags and create a dedicated environmental fund with the proceeds from such tax.
Statement of Purpose:
To encourage shoppers to utilize reusable shopping bags.
