AN ACT CONCERNING THE STATUS OF AVIATION MAINTENANCE PROGRAMS AND LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSING PROGRAMS OFFERED AT TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOLS.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
Section 1. (NEW) (Effective July 1, 2017) (a) There is established a division of postsecondary vocational programs within the technical high school system. The division shall be responsible for the provision of educational programs beyond secondary education in aviation maintenance, licensed practical nursing, and any other program deemed necessary by the technical high school system board. Any student admitted for enrollment in an aviation maintenance program, licensed practical nursing program or other such program deemed necessary by the board shall have a high school diploma or its equivalent, or be over twenty-one years of age.
(b) Any technical high school that offers an aviation maintenance program, licensed practical nursing program or any other program deemed necessary by the technical high school system board shall be considered a postsecondary vocational institution for the limited purpose of offering such aviation maintenance program, licensed practical nursing program or other such program, and for purposes of 34 CFR 600.6, as amended from time to time. Such aviation maintenance program, licensed practical nursing program or other such program shall be considered an educational program beyond secondary education for purposes of 34 CFR 600.9(a)(1)(i)(A), as amended from time to time.
This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections:
