AN ACT CONCERNING A STANDING ORDER PROGRAM FOR DISPENSING OPIOID ANTAGONISTS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That title 20 of the general statutes be amended to replace a pharmacist's ability to prescribe an opioid antagonist under section 20-633c of the general statutes with a standing order program whereby a physician may issue a standing order to enable a person or group of persons who meet certain, specified criteria, including, but not limited to, licensed pharmacists, to dispense an opioid antagonist to a person without a prescription for an opioid antagonist.

Statement of Purpose:

To increase access to opioid antagonists and prevent drug overdoses and deaths by adopting a standing order program for the dispensing of opioid antagonists.
