AN ACT INCREASING THE AMOUNT A SCHOOL DISTRICT MAY REDUCE ITS MINIMUM BUDGET REQUIREMENT WHEN IT EXPERIENCES A DECLINE IN STUDENT ENROLLMENT.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That section 10-262j of the general statutes be amended to (1) repeal the limit that a school district may reduce its budgeted appropriation for education when a district experiences a decline in the number of resident students enrolled in such school district, and (2) permit a school district to reduce its budgeted appropriation for education if such school district experiences such a decline in an amount equal to the difference in such student enrollment multiplied by fifty per cent of the per pupil expenditure of such school district.

Statement of Purpose:

To provide mandate relief by allowing school districts greater authority to reduce their education budgets when there is reduced student enrollment.
