LCO No. 5327 1 of 2 General Assembly Committee Bill No. 5153 January Session, 2019 LCO No. 5327 Referred to Committee on PUBLIC SAFETY AND SECURITY Introduced by: (PS) AN ACT CONCERNING TH E PURCHASE OF BODY ARM OR BY FIREFIGHTERS, FIRE DEPARTMENTS, EMERGENC Y SERVICES PERSONNEL AND EMERGE NCY MEDICAL SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: Section 1. Subsection (b) of section 53-341b of the general statutes is 1 repealed and the following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective 2 October 1, 2019): 3 (b) The provisions of subsection (a) of this section shall not apply to 4 the sale or delivery of body armor to (1) a sworn member or 5 authorized official of an organized local police department, the 6 Division of State Police within the Department of Emergency Services 7 and Public Protection, the Division of Criminal Justice, the Department 8 of Correction, the Board of Pardons and Paroles or the Department of 9 Motor Vehicles, (2) an authorized official of a municipality or the 10 Department of Administrative Services that purchases body armor on 11 behalf of an organized local police department, the Division of State 12 Police within the Department of Emergency Services and Public 13 Protection, the Division of Criminal Justice, the Department of 14 Committee Bill No. 5153 LCO No. 5327 2 of 2 Correction, the Board of Pardons and Paroles or the Department of 15 Motor Vehicles, (3) an authorized official of the Judicial Branch who 16 purchases body armor on behalf of a probation officer or a judicial 17 marshal, [or] (4) a member of the National Guard or the armed forces 18 reserve, (5) a firefighter or an authorized official of a municipal fire 19 department or volunteer fire company, or (6) an advanced emergency 20 medical technician, as defined in section 20-206jj, an emergency 21 medical responder, as defined in section 20-206jj, an emergency 22 medical technician, as defined in section 20-206jj, a paramedic, as 23 defined in section 20-206jj, or an authorized official of an emergency 24 medical service organization licensed or certified pursuant to chapter 25 368d. 26 This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections: Section 1 October 1, 2019 53-341b(b) Statement of Purpose: To allow firefighters, fire departments, emergency services personnel and emergency medical service organizations to purchase or receive body armor without meeting the transferor of such body armor in person.
