LCO No. 5489 1 of 2 General Assembly Committee Bill No. 5213 January Session, 2019 LCO No. 5489 Referred to Committee on INSURANCE AND REAL ESTATE Introduced by: (INS) AN ACT EXPANDING REQ UIRED HEALTH INSURANCE COV ERAGE FOR HEARING AIDS. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: Section 1. Section 38a-490b of the general statutes is repealed and 1 the following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective January 1, 2020): 2 Each individual health insurance policy providing coverage of the 3 type specified in subdivisions (1), (2), (4), (11) and (12) of section 38a-4 469 delivered, issued for delivery, renewed, amended or continued in 5 this state shall provide coverage for hearing aids. [for children twelve 6 years of age or younger.] Such hearing aids shall be considered 7 durable medical equipment under the policy and the policy may limit 8 the hearing aid benefit to one thousand dollars within a twenty-four-9 month period. 10 Sec. 2. Section 38a-516b of the general statutes is repealed and the 11 following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective January 1, 2020): 12 Each group health insurance policy providing coverage of the type 13 specified in subdivisions (1), (2), (4), (11) and (12) of section 38a-469 14 delivered, issued for delivery, renewed, amended or continued in this 15 Committee Bill No. 5213 LCO No. 5489 2 of 2 state shall provide coverage for hearing aids.
