Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: Section 1. Section 7-274 of the general statutes is repealed and the 1 following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective October 1, 2019): 2 (a) Any town may, by ordinance, establish a board of police 3 commissioners to be elected, in accordance with the provisions of 4 section 9-201 or to be appointed by the council or board of directors of 5 a town, the common council or other body empowered to make 6 ordinances of a city, the board of burgesses of a borough or the board 7 of selectmen of a town not having a council or board of directors, 8 provided in a town having both a board of selectmen and a 9 representative town meeting such ordinance may designate the 10 representative town meeting as the appointing authority, for the 11 purpose of organizing and maintaining a police department in such 12 town. Such board shall consist of three, five or seven electors, all of 13 whom shall be resident taxpayers of such town.
