AN ACT CONCERNING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF LATER MIDDLE
AND HIGH SCHOOL START TIMES.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
Assembly convened:
That chapter 164 of the general statutes be amended to prohibit, for 1
the school year commencing July 1, 2021, and each school year 2
thereafter, regularly scheduled instruction classes before 8:00 a.m. in 3
any public middle or high school, and to permit a local or regional 4
board of education to establish a start time that is appropriate for the 5
needs of the school district and its students, including a trial period to 6
pilot alternate start times. 7
Statement of Purpose:
To permit school districts to establish later school start times for
students in middle and high school that are appropriate to the needs of
the school district and its students.
