LCO No. 3621 1 of 2 General Assembly Committee Bill No. 6546 January Session, 2019 LCO No. 3621 Referred to Committee on PUBLIC HEALTH Introduced by: (PH) AN ACT REQUIRING A STUDY OF THE PREVALENCE OF TH E HEPATITIS C VIRUS IN CORRECTIONAL INSTITU TIONS AND FACILITIES. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: Section 1. (Effective October 1, 2019) The Department of Correction, in 1 collaboration with the Department of Public Health, the Insurance 2 Department and the Comptroller, shall study the prevalence of 3 inmates in correctional institutions and facilities with the hepatitis C 4 virus. Such study shall include, but need not be limited to, the 5 screening of inmates for the hepatitis C virus, feasibility of treatment of 6 inmates who test positive for the virus, health outcomes of such 7 inmates and the cost of and insurance coverage for such treatment. Not 8 later than January 1, 2020, the Commissioner of Correction shall report, 9 in accordance with the provisions of section 11-4a of the general 10 statutes, regarding the findings of such study. 11 This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections: Section 1 October 1, 2019 New section Committee Bill No. 6546 LCO No. 3621 2 of 2 Statement of Purpose: To require a study of the prevalence of the hepatitis C virus in correctional institutions and facilities.
