Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: Section 1. (Effective October 1, 2019) The Department of Correction, in 1 collaboration with the Department of Public Health, the Insurance 2 Department and the Comptroller, shall study the prevalence of 3 inmates in correctional institutions and facilities with the hepatitis C 4 virus. Such study shall include, but need not be limited to, the (1) 5 screening of inmates for the hepatitis C virus, (2) feasibility of 6 treatment of inmates who test positive for the virus, (3) health 7 outcomes of such inmates, (4) cost of and insurance coverage for such 8 treatment, and (5) feasibility of leveraging available federal funds to 9 cover the cost of such treatment. Not later than January 1, 2020, the 10 Commissioner of Correction shall report, in accordance with the 11 provisions of section 11-4a of the general statutes, regarding the 12 findings of such study. 13 This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections: Section 1 October 1, 2019 New section PH Joint Favorable Subst.
