Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: Section 1. Section 14-295 of the general statutes is repealed and the 1 following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective July 1, 2019, and 2 applicable to any civil action pending on or filed on or after said date): 3 In any civil action to recover damages resulting from personal 4 injury, wrongful death or damage to property, the trier of fact may 5 award double or treble damages if the injured party has specifically 6 pleaded that another party has deliberately or with reckless disregard 7 operated a motor vehicle in violation of section 14-218a, 14-219, 14-222, 8 14-227a or 14-227m, subdivision (1) or (2) of subsection (a) of section 9 14-227n or section 14-230, 14-234, 14-237, 14-239, [or] 14-240a or 14-10 296aa, and that such violation was a substantial factor in causing such 11 injury, death or damage to property.
