Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: Section 1. Section 13b-38i of the general statutes is repealed and the 1 following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective October 1, 2019): 2 [Any] (a) A person who is a veteran, as defined in subsection (a) of 3 section 27-103, shall be exempt from payment of the lawful charge for 4 state-owned or state-controlled bus public transportation service, 5 provided such person presents to the fare inspector, as defined in 6 section 13b-2, or the driver of such bus, as applicable, a motor vehicle 7 operator's license or identity card that indicates such person's status as 8 a veteran in accordance with subsection (e) of section 14-36h. 9 (b) Unless otherwise exempt under subsection (a) of this section, 10 any person who, with intent to obtain state-owned or controlled bus 11 public transportation service without payment of the lawful charge 12 therefor or to avoid payment of the lawful charge for such service that 13 has been rendered to such person, obtains such service or avoids 14 Raised Bill No. 7134 LCO No. 3839 2 of 2 payment therefor by force, intimidation, stealth, deception or 15 mechanical tampering, or by unjustifiable failure or refusal to pay, 16 shall have committed an infraction. 17 This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections: Section 1 October 1, 2019 13b-38i Statement of Purpose: To allow a passenger who is a veteran, upon presentation of a motor vehicle operator's license or identity card indicating such passenger's status as a veteran, to ride state-owned or state-controlled bus public transportation free of charge.
