LCO No. 4882 1 of 2 General Assembly Committee Bill No. 4 January Session, 2019 LCO No. 4882 Referred to Committee on PUBLIC HEALTH Introduced by: (PH) AN ACT CONCERNING TH E ACCESSIBILITY OF PRESCRIPTION DRUGS. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: Section 1. (Effective July 1, 2019) The Department of Public Health, in 1 collaboration with the Department of Consumer Protection, shall study 2 the public health impact of a person not taking medication prescribed 3 to such person by his or her health care provider, or not taking such 4 medication as directed, because he or she cannot afford to pay for such 5 medication. Such study shall include, but not be limited to, strategies 6 to improve patient access to medication prescribed by the patient's 7 health care provider. On or before January 1, 2020, the Commissioners 8 of Public Health and Consumer Protection shall report, in accordance 9 with the provisions of section 11-4a of the general statutes, to the joint 10 standing committees of the General Assembly having cognizance of 11 matters relating to public health and consumer protection regarding 12 the findings of such study. 13 This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections: Committee Bill No. 4 LCO No. 4882 2 of 2 Section 1 July 1, 2019 New section Statement of Purpose: To require a study of the public health impact of people not taking their prescription medications, or not taking them as directed, because they cannot afford to pay for them.
