AN ACT DESIGNATING VARIOUS DAYS AND WEEKS. 
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General 
Assembly convened: 
 
Section 1. Subsection (a) of section 10-29a of the general statutes is 1 
amended by adding subdivisions (87) to (95), inclusive, as follows 2 
(Effective from passage): 3 
(NEW) (87) The Governor shall proclaim June fifteenth of each year 4 
to be Cadet Nurse Corps Day to honor women who served during the 5 
Second World War as members of the Cadet Nurse Corps. Suitable 6 
exercises may be held in the State Capitol and elsewhere as the 7 
Governor designates for the observance of the day. 8 
(NEW) (88) The Governor shall proclaim the fourth week in May of 9 
each year to be Connecticut Older Horse Week to spread awareness of 10 
the active role that horses play in farming, sports and entertainment 11 
and to recognize the retired horses of the state. Suitable exercises may 12 
be held in the State Capitol and elsewhere as the Governor designates 13

(NEW) (89) The Governor shall proclaim the first week in 15 
September of each year to be Kidney Disease Awareness Week to raise 16 
public awareness of the associated presentation and available 17 
treatments for chronic kidney disease or kidney failure, the need for 18 
artificial filtering or dialysis, kidney donations and kidney transplants, 19 
and the diseases or conditions that impair kidney function such as 20 
diabetes and hypertension and the various types of kidney disease 21 
such as polycystic kidney disease. Suitable exercises may be held in the 22 
State Capitol and elsewhere as the Governor designates for the 23 
observance of the week. 24 
(NEW) (90) The Governor shall proclaim November twenty-second 25 
of each year to be 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome Day to raise public 26 
awareness of this genetic disease and available treatments for it. 27 
Suitable exercises may be held in the State Capitol and elsewhere as 28 
the Governor designates for the observance of the day. 29 
(NEW) (91) The Governor shall proclaim May seventeenth of each 30 
year to be Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma Day to raise public 31 
awareness of this type of brain cancer. Suitable exercises may be held 32 
in the State Capitol and elsewhere as the Governor designates for the 33 
observance of the day. 34 
(NEW) (92) The Governor shall proclaim December sixth of each 35 
year to be Thirteenth Amendment Day to reflect upon, remember and 36 
celebrate the ratification of the thirteenth amendment to the United 37 
States Constitution, which abolished slavery. Suitable exercises may be 38 
held in the State Capitol and elsewhere as the Governor designates for 39 
the observance of the day. 40 
(NEW) (93) The Governor shall proclaim June third of each year to 41 
be Clubfoot Day to raise public awareness of this musculoskeletal birth 42 
deformity and available treatments for it. Suitable exercises may be 43 
held in the State Capitol and elsewhere as the Governor designates for 44 
the observance of the day. 45 
(NEW) (94) The Governor shall proclaim February twenty-second of 46  Raised Bill No.  1091

each year to be Encephalitis Day to raise awareness of encephalitis and 47 
acknowledge those who have been directly or indirectly affected by 48 
encephalitis. Suitable exercises may be held in the State Capitol and 49 
elsewhere as the Governor designates for the observance of the day. 50 
(NEW) (95) The Governor shall proclaim July thirtieth of each year 51 
to be U.S.S. Indianapolis CA-35 Day to commemorate and honor the 52 
cruiser and the service, sacrifice and bravery of the sailors of 53 
Connecticut who served aboard the ship during World War II, and in 54 
recognition of the U.S.S. Indianapolis CA-35's final sailing crew, the 55 
pilots who discovered the survivors and the rescue and recovery 56 
crews. Suitable exercises may be held in the State Capitol and 57 
elsewhere as the Governor designates for the observance of the day. 58 
Sec. 2. Subdivision (85) of subsection (a) of section 10-29a of the 59 
general statutes is repealed and the following is substituted in lieu 60 
thereof (Effective from passage): 61 
(85) The Governor shall proclaim November [thirtieth] first of each 62 
year to be Sikh Genocide Remembrance Day to remember the lives lost 63 
on November [30] 1, 1984, during the Sikh Genocide. Suitable exercises 64 
may be held in the State Capitol and elsewhere as the Governor 65 
designates for the observance of the day. 66 
Sec. 3. (NEW) (Effective from passage) There is established an account 67 
to be known as the "Centennial Commission on Women's Suffrage 68 
account" which shall be a separate, nonlapsing account within the 69 
General Fund. The account shall contain any moneys required by law 70 
to be deposited in the account. Moneys in the account shall be 71 
expended by the Secretary of the State for the purposes of supporting 72 
the activities of the Centennial Commission on Women's Suffrage. The 73 
Secretary of the State may accept donations, grants or financial 74 
assistance for such purpose, which shall be deposited in the account. 75 
This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following 
sections:

To designate various days and weeks in order to honor or recognize 
certain groups or raise awareness regarding certain diseases and to 
create a Centennial Commission on Women's Suffrage account.
