BORER, 115th Dist. AN ACT CONCERNING REQUIRED HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR BENEFITS RELATED TO BREAST CANCER. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That sections 38a-503 and 38a-530 of the general statutes be amended 1 to: (1) Require health insurance coverage for diagnostic mammograms, 2 ultrasound screenings and magnetic resonance imaging of breasts and 3 breast biopsies for both women and men; (2) reduce the minimum age 4 at which an individual or group health insurance policy is required to 5 provide coverage for a baseline mammogram from thirty-five to thirty 6 years of age; and (3) require health insurance coverage for the detection 7 and diagnosis of breast cancer in an individual who has been treated for 8 a childhood cancer, and received radiation treatment that was directed 9 at the individual's chest as part of the treatment for said childhood 10 cancer, regardless of such individual's age. 11 Statement of Purpose: To: (1) Require health insurance coverage for diagnostic mammograms, ultrasound screenings and magnetic resonance imaging of breasts and breast biopsies for both women and men; (2) reduce the minimum age Proposed Bill No. 5189 LCO No. 588 2 of 2 at which an individual or group health insurance policy is required to provide coverage for a baseline mammogram from thirty-five to thirty years of age; and (3) require health insurance coverage for the detection and diagnosis of breast cancer in an individual who has been treated for a childhood cancer, and received radiation treatment that was directed at the individual's chest as part of the treatment for said childhood cancer, regardless of such individual's age.
