AN ACT CONCERNING MUAY THAI AS A FORM OF MIXED
MARTIAL ARTS.
SUMMARY
This bill adds muay thai as a form of mixed martial arts (MMA) by
specifically inserting it into the latter’s statutory definition. State law
generally subjects MMA matches to the laws governing professional
boxing, including those pertaining to regulation by the Department of
Emergency Services and Public Protection; licensing; taxes; match
rules; ticket prices; minimum age limits; and violations. Effectively,
these laws will now apply to muay thai.
