AN ACT CONCERNING THE INCLUSION OF FINANCIAL LITERACY 
INSTRUCTION AS PART OF THE HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION 
REQUIREMENTS. 
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General 
Assembly convened: 
 
That section 10-221a of the general statutes be amended to include as 1 
part of the high school graduation requirements a course in financial 2 
literacy, which may include, but not be limited to, an understanding of 3 
checking and savings accounts, loans, mortgages, credit cards, annual 4 
percentage rates, compound interest, budgeting, stocks and other 5 
financial instruments. 6 
Statement of Purpose:   
To require all Connecticut high school students to complete a course in 
financial literacy so that they will obtain broad financial literacy skills.
