AN ACT CONCERNING THE PROVISION OF LEGAL COUNSEL IN A CRIMINAL MATTER TO A PERSON UNDER EIGHTEEN YEARS OF AGE. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That the general statutes be amended to provide that: (1) Any person 1 under eighteen years of age who is charged with a crime shall 2 automatically be assigned legal counsel irrespective of the household 3 income of such person; and (2) no law enforcement agency personnel 4 may meet with a person under eighteen year of age who is charged with 5 a crime unless the assigned legal counsel is present with such person at 6 the meeting. 7 Statement of Purpose: To provide enhanced legal protections to a person under eighteen years of age who is charged with a crime.
