AN ACT CONCERNING NONCOMPETE AGREEMENTS. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That title 31 of the general statutes be amended to establish statutory 1 standards for reasonable noncompete agreements, including that (1) 2 each agreement be written, signed by the employer and employee and 3 state that the employee has a right to consult with counsel prior to 4 signing; (2) the employer provide notice of the agreement to the 5 employee; (3) an employer who requires an employee to sign a 6 noncompete agreement prior to beginning employment provide a copy 7 of the agreement to the employee either before making a formal offer or 8 ten days prior to the start of employment, whichever comes first; (4) an 9 employer who requires an employee to sign a noncompete agreement 10 during employment provide notice of the agreement not less than ten 11 business days before the agreement becomes effective; and (5) non-12 compete agreements during employment be supported by 13 consideration other than continued employment. 14 Proposed Bill No. 6285 LCO No. 2102 2 of 2 Statement of Purpose: To establish statutory standards for reasonable noncompete agreements.
