General Assembly Substitute Bill No. 6422

AN ACT REQUIRING A STUDY OF THE OBSTACLE S TO MERGING
OR CONSOLIDATING MUN ICIPAL FIRE DISTRICTS AND FIRE
DEPARTMENTS.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
Assembly convened:
Section 1. (Effective from passage) The Secretary of the Office of Policy 1
and Management, in consultation with municipal officials selected by 2
the secretary and a representative of the Uniformed Professional 3
Firefighters Association of Connecticut, shall conduct a study regarding 4
the obstacles to merging or consolidating the fire districts or fire 5
departments of two or more municipalities. Not later than January 1, 6
2022, the secretary shall submit a report on the findings of such study, 7
in accordance with the provisions of section 11-4a of the general statutes, 8
to the joint standing committee of the General Assembly having 9
cognizance of matters relating to planning and development. 10
This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following
sections:
