Explanation
The bill increases juror compensation rates and results in a cost of
less than $250,000 annually to the Judicial Department. The bill
increases the reimbursement of part time and unemployed jurors from
$50/day to approximately $96/day (amount is based on an 8 hour
workday at the current minimum wage). In addition, the bill provides
compensation for the first five days of jury service, removes payments
to juror who serve more than five days and are paid by their
employers, and adds additional allowable expenses to be
compensated. In FY 20, 4,805 jurors were reimbursed for a total of
$236,935.
The Out Years
The annualized ongoing fiscal impact identified above would
continue into the future subject to increases in minimum wage.
