AN ACT ALLOWING STATE AND MUNICIPAL POLICE OFFICERS TO 
WEAR TRADITIONAL RELIGIOUS HEADDRESSES AS PART OF A 
POLICE UNIFORM. 
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General 
Assembly convened: 
 
That chapter 104 of the general statutes be amended to allow a state 1 
or municipal police officer who follows the Sikh or another religion to 2 
wear a traditional headdress associated with such religion as part of the 3 
uniform of such officer, provided the headdress does not cover the face 4 
of such officer. 5 
Statement of Purpose:   
To make a career as a police officer open to more people and make police 
departments more diverse and reflective of the residents of this state by 
allowing state and municipal police officers to wear traditional religious 
headdresses as part of a police uniform.
