AN ACT ALLOWING POLI CE OFFICERS TO WEAR RELIGIOUS HEAD 
COVERINGS AS PART OF A POLICE UNIFORM. 
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General 
Assembly convened: 
 
Section 1. (NEW) (Effective from passage) Not later than October 1, 1 
2021, each law enforcement unit, as defined in section 7-294a of the 2 
general statutes, shall adopt or amend a policy to establish standards 3 
regarding the personal appearance of any police officer, as defined in 4 
section 7-294a of the general statutes, employed by such law 5 
enforcement unit while the police officer is on duty and wearing a 6 
uniform or other authorized attire. The policy shall permit a police 7 
officer to wear a religious head covering in accordance with the police 8 
officer's religious beliefs while on duty, except where the use of tight 9 
fitting protective headgear is required by such law enforcement unit.  10 
This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following 
sections:

Statement of Purpose:   
To permit a police officer to wear a religious head covering in 
accordance with such officer's religious beliefs while on duty and 
wearing a uniform.
