(By Request) AN ACT INCREASING TRAFFIC SAFETY AROUND ICE CREAM TRUCKS. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That the general statutes be amended (1) to require motor vehicles 1 engaged in vending ice cream and similar food items be equipped with 2 safety equipment that enhances such vehicle's visibility to motorists and 3 pedestrians and with signaling devices that alerts motorists to slow 4 down or stop completely when approaching such vehicle, and (2) to 5 require the sale of ice cream and similar food items occur only when the 6 vending window of such vehicle is away from the travel lane of the 7 roadway. 8 Statement of Purpose: To require the installation of certain safety equipment on ice cream trucks to increase the truck's visibility to other drivers, warn drivers that children may be present, help the ice cream truck driver see around the truck and increase the driver's line of site, and to require the sale of ice cream occur only when the vending window of such vehicle is away from the travel lane of the roadway.
