RESOLUTION EXPRESSIN G SYMPATHY ON THE DE ATH OF STATE 
AUDITOR AND FORMER S TATE SENATOR ROBERT J. KANE. 
Resolved by this Assembly:  
 
WHEREAS, on Friday, February 5, 2021, the state of Connecticut lost 1 
an admired and dedicated Auditor of Public Accounts and former State 2 
Senator with the passing of Robert J. Kane, at the age of fifty-three; and 3 
WHEREAS, he represented the 32nd senatorial district with 4 
distinction for more than nine years from 2008 through 2017; and 5 
WHEREAS, he served as an Auditor of Public Accounts from 2017 6 
until the time of his passing; and 7  Senate Joint Resolution No.  32

WHEREAS, he was born on April 30, 1967, in Waterbury, 8 
Connecticut, son of the late James J. and Deana (LoRusso) Kane Sr.; and 9 
WHEREAS, he was the proud father of his two children, Aidan and 10 
Deana Kane; and 11 
WHEREAS, he was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in 12 
Waterbury, Central Connecticut State University and the University of 13 
New Haven; and 14 
WHEREAS, he was a successful entrepreneur who opened one of the 15 
first cellphone stores in Connecticut, KarTele Cellular Communications, 16 
in 1994; and 17 
WHEREAS, he was the past chairperson of the Watertown Town 18 
Council and served as chairperson of its Finance Subcommittee and 19 
founding chairperson of its Business Development Subcommittee; and  20 
WHEREAS, he was first elected to serve the 32nd senatorial district 21 
in a special election on January 15, 2008, representing the towns of 22 
Bethlehem, Bridgewater, Middlebury, Oxford, Roxbury, Seymour, 23 
Southbury, Washington, Watertown and Woodbury; and  24 
WHEREAS, he served for four terms as a State Senator and served as 25 
the ranking member of the Appropriations Committee, Human Services 26 
Committee and the Executive and Legislative Nominations Committee, 27 
and also served on the Public Health Committee; and 28 
WHEREAS, he was the Deputy Minority Leader Pro Tempore, 29 
Caucus chairman and served as Assistant Minority Leader and Minority 30 
Whip in the Connecticut State Senate; and 31 
WHEREAS, he served as chairperson of the Wolcott Street Lakewood 32 
Road Business Association, president of the Professional Networking 33 
Partners of Waterbury Connecticut, corporator of the Valley United 34 
Way and a member of the board of directors of the Waterbury Regional 35 
Chamber of Commerce; and 36  Senate Joint Resolution No.  32

WHEREAS, he was a former board member of United Way, of the 37 
Waterbury ARC, and of the Regional Workforce Investment Board; and 38 
WHEREAS, he was a recipient of the Waterbury Regional Chamber 39 
Malcolm Baldrige Award for Volunteerism, and a recipient of the 40 
Waterbury Regional Chamber Harold Webster Smith Small Business 41 
Award; and 42 
WHEREAS, he received the 2016 Radiological Society of Connecticut 43 
Award for his leadership in advocating for preventive health care 44 
services for women and access to services by all patients; and 45 
WHEREAS, besides his beloved children, Aidan and Deana, he is 46 
survived by his siblings Maria Kane Slavin and her husband, John, 47 
Cheryl A. Kane and John Tarascio, James J. Kane Jr. and Diane S. Kane, 48 
all of Waterbury, and Christopher M. Kane of Wolcott, and several 49 
nieces and nephews. 50 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Connecticut General 51 
Assembly expresses its sincere sympathy and heartfelt condolences on 52 
the passing of one of its honorable former members, Robert J. Kane, 53 
whose death is a profound loss to the Office of the Auditors of Public 54 
Accounts, the State Senate, his family and friends, the residents of the 55 
ten towns of the 32nd senatorial district and the entire state of 56 
Connecticut; and 57 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the clerks of the House of 58 
Representatives and the Senate cause a copy of this resolution to be sent 59 
to the family of Robert J. Kane, as an expression of the high esteem and 60 
affection in which he is held.  61
