Researcher: MHF Page 1 4/10/24 OLR Bill Analysis sSB 353 AN ACT CONCERNING THE PUBLIC AVAILABILITY OF INFORMATION RELATED TO THE MAINTENANCE OF ELEVATORS. SUMMARY This bill requires the Department of Administrative Services (DAS) commissioner, by January 1, 2025, to make publicly available on the DAS website information on elevator maintenance in the state, excluding those in private residences. At a minimum, the information must include the following: 1. registration information owners or operators filed with the department as required under existing law (e.g., the elevator’s manufacturer, type, and capacity); 2. all department inspection dates and corresponding inspection reports, which existing law generally requires every 18 months; 3. copies of DAS-issued certificates of operation, including their expiration dates; 4. each order DAS issued to discontinue an elevator’s operation because it was found to be dangerous to life and property or was operating without a required certificate; and 5. any accidents and incidents reported by an elevator’s owner, or his or her agent, and any related DAS investigation and inspection information.
