AN ACT INCREASING PENALTIES FOR SPEEDING AND RECKLESS DRIVING. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That (1) sections 14-111, 14-137a and 14-222 of the general statutes be 1 amended to provide that (A) any person who operates a motor vehicle 2 at a rate of speed greater than eighty-six miles per hour, but not greater 3 than ninety-nine miles per hour, shall be fined not less than five 4 hundred dollars and assessed two points against the person's motor 5 vehicle operator's license; and (B) any person who operates a motor 6 vehicle at a rate of speed greater than ninety-nine miles per hour shall 7 be fined not less than one thousand dollars and assessed four points 8 against the person's operator's license and the Commissioner of Motor 9 Vehicles shall, without hearing, suspend such person's operator's 10 license or privilege to operate a motor vehicle for a period of thirty days; 11 and (2) sections 14-111 and 14-111b of the general statutes be amended 12 to require the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles to suspend, without 13 hearing, a person's operator's license or privilege to operate a motor 14 vehicle for a third or subsequent violation of section 14-219 or 14-222 of 15 Proposed Bill No. 5062 LCO No. 433 2 of 2 the general statutes within a ten-year period, for a period of not less than 16 six months. 17 Statement of Purpose: To improve public safety by increasing penalties for speeding and reckless driving.
