AN ACT PROHIBITING CERTAIN SALES AND LEASES OF DOGS, CATS AND RABBITS IN RETAIL PET STORES. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That the general statutes be amended to provide that no retail pet 1 store shall offer, sell, lease, auction, barter or otherwise transfer 2 ownership of any dog, cat or rabbit, except a retail pet store may 3 collaborate with a duly incorporated humane society, animal protective 4 association or other animal adoption or rescue organization for the 5 purpose of providing space to showcase for adoption dogs, cats or 6 rabbits owned by such society, association or organization. 7 Statement of Purpose: To prohibit retail pet stores from selling, leasing, auctioning, bartering or otherwise transferring ownership of dogs, cats and rabbits while preserving the ability of such stores to showcase for adoption dogs, cats and rabbits owned by third parties.
