AN ACT CONCERNING THE INCLUSION OF READING PROFICIENCY
AS A HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION REQUIREMENT.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
Assembly convened:
That section 10-221a of the general statutes be amended to include as 1
part of the high school graduation requirements a minimum reading 2
proficiency standard that each student be able to read at an eighth-grade 3
level in order to graduate from high school. 4
Statement of Purpose:
To require high school graduates to be able to read at a minimum of an
eighth-grade reading level.
