AN ACT CONCERNING A REDUCTION OF SINGLE -USE PLASTICS 
AND POLYSTYRENE WASTE. 
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General 
Assembly convened: 
 
That the general statutes be amended to: (1) Prohibit any state or 1 
municipal government agency, including any vendor with a 2 
government contract, schools and any business, including food vendors, 3 
from selling, using, purchasing or providing: (A) Any food ware or 4  Proposed Bill No.  6229

beverage product composed in whole, or in part, of polystyrene, such as 5 
takeout containers or trays; (B) any packaging product composed of 6 
polystyrene, including packaging peanuts; and (C) any single-use 7 
plastic cutlery, straw, plastic stirrer, splash stick or food ware accessory 8 
to a customer, except a single-use plastic straw may be provided to 9 
persons with a disability; (2) require state buildings, municipal 10 
buildings and schools that are required to contain drinking fountains to 11 
also have an equivalent number of bottle-filling stations; (3) require a 12 
report on establishing a requirement to reduce single-use plastic 13 
packaging and food service products by not less than twenty-five per 14 
cent by 2032. 15 
Statement of Purpose:   
To reduce the production of single-use plastics and polystyrene waste 
in the state.
