AN ACT STRENGTHENING LAWS CONCERNING EVASION OF POLICE. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That (1) section 14-222 of the general statutes concerning negligent 1 homicide with a motor vehicle be amended to raise the penalty for 2 violating said section to a class C or D felony with a mandatory sentence 3 of three to five years, (2) subsection (a) of section 14-223 of the general 4 statutes concerning disobeying the signal of an officer be amended to 5 raise the penalty for violating said subsection to a class A misdemeanor 6 or class E felony, (3) subsection (b) of section 14-223 of the general 7 statutes concerning engaging a police officer in pursuit be amended to 8 raise the penalty to a class E or D felony for a violation not resulting in 9 serious injury or death, (4) section 14-224 of the general statutes 10 concerning evasion of responsibility be amended to provide for a 11 mandatory sentence of two years for causing serious injury to another 12 person and a mandatory minimum sentence of five years for causing the 13 death of another person, and (5) section 53a-57 of the general statutes 14 concerning misconduct with a motor vehicle resulting in death be 15 Proposed Bill No. 6760 LCO No. 2896 2 of 2 amended to raise the penalty to a class C or B felony with a mandatory 16 sentence of five to ten years with the maximum sentence applied for a 17 violation resulting in the death of a police officer. 18 Statement of Purpose: To strengthen laws concerning evasion of police.
