LCO No. 5146 1 of 2 General Assembly Raised Bill No. 7172 January Session, 2025 LCO No. 5146 Referred to Committee on ENVIRONMENT Introduced by: (ENV) AN ACT CONCERNING THE SEWAGE RIGHT -TO-KNOW ACT. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: Section 1. Subdivision (4) of subsection (c) of section 22a-424a of the 1 general statutes is repealed and the following is substituted in lieu 2 thereof (Effective from passage): 3 (4) Not later than December 1, [2021] 2026, the Department of Energy 4 and Environmental Protection shall implement a real-time public 5 notification system, through which the public may choose to be notified 6 by phone, electronic mail or text message of any sewage spills or 7 permitted sewage bypasses as such sewage spills or permitted sewage 8 bypasses are reported electronically to said department. Such real-time 9 public notifications shall be provided independent of any social media 10 platform and occur not later than two hours after said department's 11 receipt of any such report. 12 This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections: Section 1 from passage 22a-424a(c)(4) Raised Bill No. 7172 LCO No. 5146 2 of 2 Statement of Purpose: To require development of a sign-up service for the public's receipt of certain sewage spill notifications by phone, electronic mail or text.
