RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE CULTURE AND HERITAGE OF 
TAÍNO DESCENDANTS IN THIS STATE. 
Resolved by this House: 
 
That the House recognize the residents of this state of Taíno heritage, 1 
by (1) affirming their vital role in the state's diverse cultural fabric, (2) 2 
honoring the historical and cultural contributions of the Taíno people, 3 
ensuring that their heritage is recognized and preserved for future 4 
generations, (3) supporting efforts of the Taíno people to gain federal 5 
recognition while clarifying that this recognition does not confer tribal 6 
status, nor establish claims to land or sovereignty within the state, and 7 
(4) encouraging collaboration with Taíno cultural organizations to 8 
promote awareness, support educational initiatives and assist in 9 
language revitalization efforts. 10 
Statement of Purpose:   
To respect and affirm the cultural identity of Taíno descendants in 
Connecticut, ensuring that their heritage is recognized and preserved  Proposed House Resolution No.   10

historical and ongoing contributions to the state.
