LCO No. 4660 1 of 2 General Assembly Raised Bill No. 1325 January Session, 2025 LCO No. 4660 Referred to Committee on PUBLIC HEALTH Introduced by: (PH) AN ACT PERMITTING NATUROPATHIC PHYSICIANS TO PRESCRIBE AND ADMINISTER VITAMIN B12. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: Section 1. Subsection (a) of section 20-34 of the general statutes is 1 repealed and the following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective July 1, 2 2025): 3 (a) The practice of naturopathy means the science, art and practice of 4 healing by natural methods as recognized by the Council of 5 Naturopathic Medical Education and that comprises diagnosis, 6 prevention and treatment of disease and health optimization by 7 stimulation and support of the body's natural healing processes, as 8 approved by the State Board of Naturopathic Examiners, with the 9 consent of the Commissioner of Public Health, and shall include (1) 10 counseling; (2) the practice of the mechanical and material sciences of 11 healing as follows: The mechanical sciences such as mechanotherapy, 12 articular manipulation, corrective and orthopedic gymnastics, 13 physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, electrotherapy and phototherapy; and 14 the material sciences such as nutrition, dietetics, phytotherapy, 15 Raised Bill No. 1325 LCO No. 4660 2 of 2 treatment by natural substances and external applications; (3) ordering 16 diagnostic tests and other diagnostic procedures as such tests and 17 procedures relate to the practice of mechanical and material sciences of 18 healing as described in subdivision (2) of this subsection; (4) ordering 19 medical devices and durable medical equipment; [and] (5) removing ear 20 wax, spirometry, tuberculosis testing and venipuncture for blood 21 testing; and (6) prescribing and administering vitamin B12. 22 This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections: Section 1 July 1, 2025 20-34(a) Statement of Purpose: To permit naturopathic physicians to prescribe and administer vitamin B12.
