Nadeau 10 11 12 ______________________________ ______________________________ 13 Councilmember Janeese Lewis George Councilmember Christina Henderson 14 15 16 ______________________________ ______________________________ 17 Councilmember Matthew Frumin Councilmember Zachary Parker 18 19 20 21 A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION 22 23 _________ 24 25 26 IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA 27 28 _________ 29 30 31 32 To recognize and honor Pat Collins for his outstanding accomplishments as an award-winning 33 broadcast journalist, to commend him for the impact his work has had in the District of 34 Columbia, and to celebrate his retirement after a long career bringing the news to District 35 residents. 36 37 WHEREAS, Pat Collins was born in 1946, in Washington, DC, and grew up on H Street 38 Northwest; 39 40 WHEREAS, Collins is a graduate and noted alumnus of Notre Dame University; 41 42 WHEREAS, after graduating from Notre Dame in 1968, Collins spent a year in Vietnam; 43 44 WHEREAS, Collins began his career at 15 years old as a print journalist working first for 45 the Washington Daily News, and later for the Washington Star; 46 47 WHEREAS, by the age of 17, Collins had a regular column in the Washington Daily 48 News; 49 50 WHEREAS, Collins joined NBC4 Washington in 1986, and prior to that, he worked for 51 WJLA-TV in Washington, DC, and WLS-TV in Chicago; 52 53 WHEREAS, Collins spent seven years as a general assignment, investigative and feature 54 reporter for WDVM-TV (now WUSA-TV) in Washington, DC; 55 56 WHEREAS, Collins has earned 10 Emmy awards, two Clarion awards, and a Chesapeake 57 Associated Press award for “Best Feature Reporter”; 58 59 WHEREAS, Collins was inducted into The Silver Circle by the National Capital 60 Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for his more 61 than 25 years of television service in Washington, DC; 62 63 WHEREAS, Collins is a Washington, DC TV legend, and delighted viewers with his 64 well-known comedic coverage of hard hitting and breaking news; 65 66 WHEREAS, Collins will be remembered for his famous snow stick, which guided many 67 District residents through countless winter storms; 68 69 WHEREAS, on December 7, 2022, after 36 years, Collins announced he will retire from 70 NBC4; and 71 72 WHEREAS, Collins leaves behind a legacy of quirky and hilarious videos for our 73 viewing pleasure for years to come on YouTube and his personal Facebook page. 74 75 RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, that this 76 resolution may be cited as the “Pat Collins Recognition Resolution of 2023”. 77 78 Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes, honors, and congratulates 79 Pat Collins, on his retirement, for his invaluable contributions during his 36-year career at 80 NBC4, where he will be remembered and celebrated for his coverage of hard hitting and 81 breaking news in the District of Columbia. 82 83 Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon the first date of publication in 84 the District of Columbia Register. 85
