This ceremonial resolution recognizes the 100th Anniversary of the Burleith neighborhood in Ward 2, celebrating the myriad contributions this neighborhood's residents and property owners, as well as the Burleith Citizens Association, have made to the neighborhood, the surrounding community, and the District throughout the last 100 years. Gray 1 A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION 2 3 _________ 4 5 6 IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA 7 8 _______________ 9 10 To recognize and honor Burleith residents and property owners, on the occasion of the 11 neighborhood’s 100th anniversary. 12 13 WHEREAS, 2023 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Burleith 14 neighborhood, a village in the city, in Northwest Washington, DC; 15 WHEREAS, shortly thereafter the residents formed the Burleith Citizens Association 16 (“Association”) which was instrumental in the development of the neighborhood as it is known 17 today; 18 WHEREAS, the Association has fostered a sense of community in Burleith by bringing 19 together community members with common interests, goals, and needs; 20 WHEREAS, the Association represents Burleith to the District government, Advisory 21 Neighborhood Commission 2E, and other organizations, and serves on the Georgetown 22 Community Partnership steering committee; 23 WHEREAS, the Association has worked closely with the Council and other government 24 entities to provide valuable insight on issues such as zoning, housing, construction, and 25 redistricting; and 26 2 WHEREAS, the Association’s tireless commitment to public service and social welfare 27 has positively impacted the Burleith community, Ward 2, and the District. 28 RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this 29 resolution may be cited as the “Burleith Centennial Recognition Resolution of 2023”. 30 Sec. 2. The Council recognizes and honors the Burleith neighborhood on its 100th 31 anniversary for its exceptional contributions to all aspects of life in the District of Columbia. 32 Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon the first date of publication in 33 the District of Columbia Register. 34
