McDuffie Councilmember Brooke Pinto 10 11 12 A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION 13 ______________ 14 15 IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA 16 __________________ 17 18 To recognize and honor the contributions of Patrice “Boog” Harris, a dedicated father, mentor, 19 and boxing coach in the Southwest community. 20 21 WHEREAS, Patrice Harris has served as a boxing coach for Headbangers Boxing, 22 the premier boxing program under the Department of Parks and Recreation at Bald Eagle 23 Recreation Center in Bellevue neighborhood of Ward 8; 24 25 WHEREAS, Harris has served a coach at Bald Eagle for a total of 22 years: four 26 years as a volunteer and 18 years as an employee of the Department of Parks and Recreation; 27 28 WHEREAS, Harris recently starred in the film “Creed 3” as a boxing coach for 29 Adonis Creed, who is played by actor Michael B. Jordan; 30 31 WHEREAS, Harris also served as a behind-the-scenes boxing coach for Jordan to 32 prepare him for the film “Creed 2” after being personally selected by Jordan; 33 34 WHEREAS, Harris served as a boxing coach and mentor for thousands of young 35 boys and families, primarily African-American, over the course of more than two decades; 36 37 WHEREAS, Harris currently guides and develops several young boxers, including 38 Nasheed Smith, the 2022 National Champion for the 189-pound weight class and current 39 20 th ranked pound-for-pound amateur boxer in the United States, according to BoxRec; 40 Quincey Williams, the current second-ranked 154-pound) amateur boxer and #10 ranked 41 pound-for-pound amateur boxer in the United States, according to BoxRec; Deric Davis, the 42 current #10 ranked 139-pound (super lightweight) amateur boxer in the United States, 43 according to BoxRec; and his son Patrick Harris, who was a USA Boxing national champion 44 and regional Golden Gloves winner as an amateur and is currently undefeated with 20 wins 45 in his professional career; 46 47 RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this 48 resolution may be cited as the “Patrice ‘Boog’ Harris Ceremonial Recognition Resolution of 49 2023”. 50 51 Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia honors and celebrates the 52 contributions of Patrice “Boog” Harris to the District and the surrounding community. 53 54 Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon the first date of publication in 55 the District of Columbia Register. 56
