IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA  18

To recognize and honor the contributions that Grace J. Lewis has made to the District of 23 
Columbia throughout her career in public service.  24 
 25 
WHEREAS, Grace J. Lewis has served the District of Columbia as a distinguished public 26 
servant in her professional career and throughout her personal time;  27 
 28 
WHEREAS, Grace J. Lewis has been a Ward 5 resident and advocate throughout her career 29 
serving as an ANC Commissioner, a staffer in the Ward 5 DC Council office, and on the Ward 5 30 
Democrats; 31 
 32 
WHEREAS, Grace J. Lewis has hosted numerous annual events to bring together the Ward 33 
5 and broader District of Columbia Community together, including back-to-school supply drives, 34 
Thanksgiving luncheons for Seniors, Halloween events for children, Valentine’s Day luncheons 35 
for seniors, scholarship nights, and community days; 36 
 37 
WHEREAS, Grace J. Lewis has committed herself to the betterment of the North Michigan 38 
Park Community as a co-founder of the Friends of North Michigan Park organization, dedicated 39 
to addressing the needs of the North Michigan Park Community in Ward 5; 40 
 41 
WHEREAS, Grace J. Lewis has brought numerous improvements to the North Michigan 42 
Park neighborhood such as the construction of the North Michigan Park Recreation Center, 43 
important issues for Providence Hospital, and the installation of welcome signs for North Michigan 44 
Park;  45 
 46  WHEREAS, Grace J. Lewis has served on numerous committees to ensure that her 47 
community’s voice and concerns were heard, including the Metro Green Line to Maryland 48 
Committee, Bertie Backus Middle School Conversion Committee, and the Hospital Center 49 
Community Advisory Council; and 50 
 51 
WHEREAS, Grace J. Lewis has served the residents of the District of Columbia with a 52 
steadfast dedication to improving their quality of life.   53

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this 55 
resolution may be cited as the “Grace J. Lewis Recognition Resolution of 2023.” 56 
 57 
Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and honors Grace J. Lewis for 58 
her years of dedication to the District of Columbia.  59 
 60 
Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately. 61
