_______________________________ _______________________________ 1 Chairman Robert White, Jr. Councilmember Trayon White, Sr. 2 3 4 _______________________________ 5 Councilmember Zachary Parker 6 7 8 9 A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION 10 ______________ 11 12 IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA 13 __________________ 14 15 To recognize and thank Ward 8 resident Travis-Dread-Hughes for his service to the District 16 and dedication to improving health outcomes for vulnerable individuals and families. 17 18 WHEREAS, Travis Dread-Hughes was born in St. Louis, Missouri and later moved to 19 Alton, Illinois and Washington, D.C.; 20 21 WHEREAS, Mr. Dread-Hughes attended Carr Lane School, Alton Senior High School, 22 and Southern Illinois University, where he earned Bachelor of Science and Master in Education 23 degrees; 24 25 WHEREAS, Mr. Dread-Hughes served as Associate Director and Deputy Project 26 Director for the Tobacco Free Families Campaign of the American Lung Association of the 27 District of Columbia from 2007 to 2009; 28 29 WHEREAS, Mr. Dread Hughes served as a Certified Addiction Counselor and 30 Compliance Specialist for the District Department of Health’s Addiction Prevention Recovery 31 Administration from 2009 to 2015; 32 33 WHEREAS, since 2015, Mr. Dread-Hughes has served as a Behavioral Training 34 Specialist and Community Outreach Specialist with the District Department of Behavioral 35 Health; 36 37 WHEREAS, Mr. Dread-Hughes has achieved certifications in Addition Counseling, 38 Alcohol and Drug Counseling, Tobacco Treatment, Co-Occurring Disorder Capability Training, 39 and Mental Health First Aid; 40 41 WHEREAS, Mr. Dread-Hughes is the recipient of awards recognizing his work, 42 including the “Thank You Award” from MPD’s 7 th District, the Chairman’s Award from the 43 Ward 8 Health Council, the “Walk That Talk” Certificate of Appreciation from KRA 44 Corporation, named a “Resource Go-To Person” and recognized for “Outstanding Community 45 Support and Engagement” by Bridging the Gap, as well as being the Regular Guys Scholarship; 46 47 WHEREAS, Mr. Dread-Hughes is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; in 48 addition, Mr. Dread-Hughes is part of the Prince Hall Masonic Houses, Blue House, Red House, 49 Purple House, Black House, and Consistory. Mr. Dread-Hughes is also a member of the 50 Shriners; 51 52 WHEREAS, Mr. Dread-Hughes is a cancer survivor; 53 54 WHEREAS, Mr. Dread-Hughes lives by the motto “do unto others as you would have 55 them do unto you – help somebody,” and lives it every day as he provides critical support to 56 vulnerable District families and communities; 57 58 RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this 59 resolution may be cited as the “Travis Dread-Hughes Recognition Resolution of 2023”. 60 61 Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and thanks Ward 8 resident 62 Travis-Dread-Hughes for his service to the District and dedication to improving health 63 outcomes for individuals and families. 64 65 Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon the first date of publication in 66 the District of Columbia Register. 67 68 69
