_______________________________ _______________________________ 1 Chairman Zachary Parker Councilmember Trayon White, Sr. 2 3 4 _______________________________ 5 Councilmember Robert White, Jr. 6 7 8 9 A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION 10 ______________ 11 12 IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA 13 __________________ 14 15 To recognize and thank Ward 8 resident Sandra Renee Chambers for her dedication to social 16 justice and tenure as president of the New York-Washington Missionary Society. 17 18 WHEREAS, Sandra Renee Chambers is a native of Salisbury North Carolina, and has 19 been a District resident for over forty years; 20 21 WHEREAS, Ms. Chambers has been a community advocate for residents in historic 22 Anacostia for over thirty years; 23 24 WHEREAS, Ms. Chambers has represented the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in 25 work with the National Council of Negro Woman and Affiliate Bread for the World-Pan African 26 Women; 27 28 WHEREAS, Ms. Chamber’s commitment to public service included a career in the 29 federal civil service, retiring after a distinguished career of 46 years at the Social Security 30 Administration; 31 32 WHEREAS, Ms. Chambers has led hundreds of young women and adults in addressing 33 hunger, health disparities, voting rights, and missionary work; 34 35 WHEREAS, Ms. Chambers has led letter writing campaigns resulting in over 30,000 36 letters being written and sent to leaders to elected officials; 37 WHEREAS, Ms. Chambers was elected president of the New York Washington Region 38 Missionary Service, leading the missionary work of 54 churches in Maryland, Delaware, New 39 Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina; 40 41 WHEREAS, Ms. Chambers eight-year presidency of the New York-Washington Region 42 Missionary Society concludes in July 2023; 43 44 RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this 45 resolution may be cited as the “Sandra Renee Chambers Recognition Resolution of 2023”. 46 47 Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and thanks Ward 8 resident 48 Sandra Renee Chambers for her commitment to social justice, charitable contributions, and 49 service to the District. 50 51 Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon the first date of publication in 52 the District of Columbia Register. 53 54
