IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA 
 
July 11, 2023 
 
To recognize and thank Ward 8 resident Sandra Renee Chambers for her dedication to social 
justice and tenure as president of the New York-	Washington Missionary Society.    
 
WHEREAS, Sandra Renee Chambers is a native of Salisbury North Carolina, and has 
been a District resident for over 40 years ; 
 
 WHEREAS, Ms. Chambers has been a community advocate for residents in historic 
Anacostia for over thirty years; 
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Chambers has represented the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in 
work with the National Council of Negro Woman and Affiliate Bread for the World-	Pan African 
Women; 
 
 WHEREAS, Ms. Chamber’s commitment to public service included a career in the 
federal civil service	, retiring after a distinguished career of 46 years at the Social Security 
Administration; 
 
 WHEREAS, Ms. Chambers has led hundreds of young women and adults in addressing 
hunger, health disparities, voting rights, and missionary work; 
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Chambers has led letter writing campaigns resulting in over 30,000 
letters being written and sent to leaders to elected officials	; 
WHEREAS, Ms. Chambers was elected president of the New York Washington Region 
Missionary Service, leading the missionary work of 54 churches in Maryland, Delaware, New 
Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina; 
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Chambers eight-year presidency of the New York -Washington Region 
Missionary Society concludes in July 2023. 
 
 RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this 
resolution may be cited as the “Sandra Renee Chambers Recognition Resolution of 202 3”.

Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and thanks Ward 8 resident 
Sandra Renee Chambers for her commitment to social justice, charitable contributions, and 
service to the District. 
 
 Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
